I created 𝑰 𝒂𝒎 𝑾𝒊𝒕𝒄𝒉 so that we could learn and grow together. As part of that journey, I will sometimes add links or posts (on the Facebook page or in the group/forum) that might make you feel uncomfortable or angry. Part of learning and growing is acknowledging mistakes or bad behaviours, learning from them and trying to do better in the future. I know that my style of witchcraft and my beliefs are mine alone, and I do not want any of you to ever feel like I am trying to force them upon you (I’m not), but I do hope you take the opportunities to learn that I am trying to provide.
Part of the journey, especially if you are white, is learning what we do not have the right to claim as ours. Native traditions and closed practices are not for those people outside of that culture. White people have historically tried to eradicate anything that does not fit with their beliefs (and some of us are still trying to do that unfortunately) or they have tried to take it from the people it belongs to.
We have a wide range of open practices and beliefs open to us, and I find it saddening that in 2023, people are still trying to claim what is not theirs to have. It’s time we acknowledged our mistakes and did better. It’s time we looked at the practices and traditions of our ancestors and stopped taking from those who have already lost so much. We cannot demand respect for our own beliefs and practices if we are not showing it to everyone else. Equality and fair treatment should be for everyone, and this is our opportunity to learn, grow, and do better.
